Superpower Academy (Review)

Superpower Academy’s mission is to “empower and equip children with the Social and Emotional skills to be the next generation of leaders, innovators and world-savers.” The company was founded by Pamela Joe in 2017 after she learned more about the important link between social emotional learning and success. 

Before founding Superpower Academy, Pamela attended Stanford University to study psychology and UCLA to study law. Upon graduation, she began work as a lawyer, but soon became more passionate about renewable energy and took a job as an executive at Sopogy. The company’s headquarters are located in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Your little hero will be tasked with challenging STEM and Social & Emotional Learning projects designed to promote skills like dealing with frustration, refusing to give up and expressing empathy, all while keeping them fully engaged in their very own hero adventure.

We received the “Laser Focus” box which is the slightly more difficult box and needs a little bit more parent support but Jiaire loved building his “feeling finder” which helps increase his emotional intelligence and explore calming strategies.

Our box included a newspaper clipping that states that “The world is in trouble”, a SECRET MESSAGE audio recording summons addressed to Jiaire, a comic book about feelings, and of course, our wooden feeling finder pieces that we had to build and stickers to complete the project.

We have tried a few of these STEM subscription boxes and I think that this one is our favorite. Jiaire had so much fun putting the pieces together and reading about what the feeling finder does and how it works, he really loved the comic book to go with it also. What I love the most about this particular box as a parent is the focus on promoting a growth mindset, mindfulness, and skills like dealing with emotions, building confidence and expressing empathy – which is so important in raising our little superheroes!
