Drive around the lake – The number one thing people suggested we do after we drove to Bass Lake was to take a drive around the lake. After being in the car for two and a half hours, I have to admit, the last thing we wanted to do was get back in the car and drive more. But I thought I’d mention it since it was recommended by so many!

Go for a hike – there are several hikes around the lake. We especially loved hiking the Way of the Mono Trail and Angle Falls at Willow Creek Trail.

Drive to Jones Store/Beasore Meadows – The Jones Store is a quaint country store along the second half of the Byway known just as much for the stellar hamburgers and delicious pie as it is for the hospitality of the owners. The store has a history going back nearly a century, and families that have been frequenting the business for generations. Enjoy a cold beverage and hot lunch as you talk to people who knew the area way back when.

Head into Oakhurst

Eat at Southgate Brewing Company – The black bean burger and tacos tie for my favorite meal. If you order the tacos be ready for some spice. Added bonus is they offer gluten-free buns! According to my husband, the beer is really good too. Southgate Brewing Company is located at 40233 Enterprise Dr, Oakhurst, CA 93644

Stop for something sweet at Reimer’s Candies, Gifts & Ice Cream, Oakhurst, CA.

Explore Coarsegold Historic Village

Coarsegold Historical Village is a tiny cultural district. You can pan for gold and shop for artisan-made items made on-site like wood-carved bears. You won’t miss it on Hwy 41. Just look for the giant Tee Pee on the side of the highway. I love stopping here for a quick walk around on the way out of town. 35300 Hwy 41 Coarsegold, CA 93614
