St. Patrick’s Day Sensory Bin: Alphabet Search
St. Patrick’s Day is near! I created this super quick and easy sensory bin for my toddler and wanted to share it with you! It teaches the alphabet as well as matching.
What You’ll Need:
- 26 toy gold coins (alternative: cut-out cardboard circles)
- a sharpie
- dot stickers (optional)
- a bin of green rice (or other sensory bin materials) see how to dye rice here.
- piece of paper with the alphabet written or printed on it
Directions:
Prep –
- Write each letter of the alphabet on a dot sticker and stick it to the coins
- NOTE: You can write directly on the coins with Sharpie but I didn’t want them to be permanent
- Write each of the letters of the alphabet on a piece of paper (I printed the alphabet on green construction paper to keep the St. Patty’s Day theme going).
- Hide the coins in the bin of rice.
Play –
- Have your child dig up the “leprechaun gold” that you’ve hidden
- Challenge your child to match each coin found to the matching letter on the paper
- It’s that simple!
My toddler is 3 and really enjoyed this activity! If you have an older child, you can make it more challenging by mixing upper and lowercase letters or use words or math problems.
