Dollar Tree DIY Sensory Bins and Activities on a Budget (Infant Safe)
Reign is a such a busy bee, he always needs to be doing something (like his mama!) so now he is one and learning more about playing and using more motor skills (something other than water play, which he is obsessed with!) I thought it would be a good time to start some sensory bin/activities with him. I looked online and on amazon and the pre-made bins were so expensive and they had sand or water beads, something that is still a choking hazard for my little one (and he eats sand haha) so I decided to take a quick trip to the Dollar Store and make my own! Here are the ones we started out with:
Muffin Tin Rescue
Tape objects to muffin tin and let baby go at at! We also use ball pit balls, toy animals, little people etc. to switch it up a bit for him.
Cookie Sheet Alphabet
He just slides these around and tries to stick them together right now but so many fun activities to do with these when he gets older! You can have your little one spell out words, equations, write their name, organize the letters into vowels or into colors – the possibilities are endless with these!
Pom Pom Whisk
Stuff a whisk full of pom poms and let kiddo take them out. This also would work with ribbons/tulle etc. We have this ball for the ribbons too.
Sponge Sensory Tub
This is his favorite, he loves water play! I cut up some dish sponges and placed in the water with his measuring cups and other water tools (he eventually sat in the tub 😂)
Dollar Store Sensory Activities Materials:
- Muffin tray
- Baking sheet
- Magnetic letters
- Whisk (2 sizes)
- Pom poms (different sizes/textures)
- Painters/masking tape
- Dish sponges (different colors)
- Measuring cups
- Plastic bins
He absolutely loved these sensory activities so far, I cannot wait to head back to the dollar tree and come up with some more ideas!
