Beach Vacation With A Baby: What To Pack
We recently had our first family beach vacation in Sarasota, FL! The trip was everything we hoped it would be + more and we packed almost perfectly so I am going to share what we packed, and what we should have packed…
First, I will preface this post with:
- Reign was 8 months old – he turned 8 months old that weekend actually! 🙂
- We were on vacation from Saturday to Monday – no flying, it was a road trip.
- I’m a formula feeding mom so formula + bottles are added to this list
- The hotel we stayed at didn’t have a kitchen – we chose our hotel around the type of vacation we wanted. We wanted to be able to walk out our hotel room door and be on the beach so we didn’t bother with the extras in the room.
- We are doing baby led weaning so we don’t use baby food pouches, puree etc. if you are not doing BLW add those items to your list
The Packing List
THE ESSENTIALS
- Baby sunscreen – we bought this 4oz mineral sunscreen from Tubby Todd and it was more than enough
- Baby sun hat – we bought two, for the pool and beach. They dry quick in the sun.
- Baby regular hat – because Florida is hot and sunny!
- Baby swim gear, we packed a one piece long sleeved rash guard and a two piece long sleeved rash guard for easier pool diaper changes!
- Feeding utensils – Reign is particular with his spoon so we had to take his regular ones and lots of bibs!
- Straw cup for water – He loves this one!
- Laundry bags or gallon-sized ziploc bags for wet clothes
- Clothes – we packed 2 outfits per day (one for breakfast and one for dinner) – that is all we needed since we spent a lot of time at the beach and pool
- Diapers and wipes – bring more than you think you need
- Swim diapers – we bought these disposable swim diapers
- Beach tent – THE BEST INVENTION EVER! I cannot recommend this enough! It has the perfect amount of shade and the bottom can be used as a pool which he loved to splash in. It stayed up and was easy to fold/unfold.
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Shampoo and body wash
- Diaper rash cream
- Baby moisturizer – so important! We spent a lot of time in the water so we needed a lot of this to keep his skin from drying out
- Bottle soap – we used this for his bottles, utensils and water straw cup etc.
- Formula
- Bedtime blanket/soother – and a back up just in case baby spits up etc.
- Beach toys – we packed some balls, and a bucket, shovels and molds
- Beach blanket – we love this one because it’s huge and big enough for Reign to crawl on (we put it right outside his tent entrance) the sand comes off easily too!
- Mesh beach bag – yay to no sand coming back with us!
- Travel fan – we use this one and take it everywhere! Florida is HOT. The battery lasts so long and its powerful and keeps him cool.
- Pack and play – hotels usually have these but we wanted to use our own, for obvious reasons
- Stroller
WISH WE WOULD HAVE PACKED
- Sound machine – we used our cellphones instead and it wasn’t the same
- Baby carrier – We visited a few places in the daytime and his carrier would have been a little easier than packing up his stroller each time
And that’s it! I hope this post is helpful for mamas who are thinking about taking their little ones on beach vacations! Let me know if you have any questions in the comments, and I will be happy to answer!
